This statement means that someone that takes notes will always do well in anything because it shows that they are paying attention. When you pay attention, you know you are going to do everything right because you listen to the instructor or anybody that was talking to you. An example, is taking notes to a lecture when you know there will be a test on it. You know you will do well in that test because you took notes on it.
